From Goodreads: After learning Theo is alive, Sar immediately embarks on a mission to find him. Reunited, the lovers return to New York, Danial, Terian and Theo uneasily combining forces to protect Sar from Al’s assassins who still seek her. But when Sar is taken prisoner in an all-out attack, only one man can save her—her old adversary, Devlin.

Let me just say that with this series you need to start at the beginning. My review won’t contain any spoilers, but it’s important to note that if you start with this book, you may not know what’s going on. I know it took me a little bit to remember since it had been a while since I read the last one. It will pick right back up where the last one left off, so if you wanna just grab all of them and read straight though, that would probably be a lot of fun. I’ve been looking forward to this installment for a while because these stories are always so much fun. To me, this series makes the paranormal world seem even more realistic than some of the other series out there. It seems perfectly normal that the world works the way it does and there’s nothing that breaks me from feeling like this is reality when I read these. The main character, Sar, is a little frustrating to me just because she is so incredibly different from me and reacts in ways to situations that I don’t always understand. The love stories in these books make me feel like I’m spinning in circles and I can’t quite keep up with how Sar feels about someone sometimes. That being said, I think it’s kind of fun. I like feeling like I’m on a roller coaster because when I read, I read to escape reality. This definitely does that and I really enjoy these books. This one was no exception. The story went by a lot quicker than I wanted it to and I hope I get to read the rest soon. They’re like a paranormal soap opera, which is exactly my kind of soap opera. There’s tons of up and down emotions and everything you’d want in a series. 🙂

From Goodreads: When Theo disappears, Sar is left bereft, the uncertain guardian of Theo’s newly born werecougar daughter, Elle. As months pass, clues emerge about Theo’s disappearance, yet the twisting trail ends repeatedly without answer. In her grief, Sar turns to Danial and hesitantly begins to build a life with him and Elle.

This was my favorite book of this series by far. I didn’t have the same issue as I did with the last one. While the reader still might be confused if they chose to pick up this book without reading the other two, I feel like there was enough backstory explained that it wouldn’t have been nearly has confusing as if they had started with the second one. I loved the direction this story has taken. I wasn’t sure what I was hoping for and I didn’t know what was going to happen next. There are definitely times that I want to pick Sar up and shake her. I feel like some of her decisions aren’t necessarily the best ones and it makes me dislike her sometimes. I love the chemistry she has with Danial though. A lot of times in stories like this I can’t feel the chemistry and that makes it much easier for me to stop caring about what happens to their relationship. That has never been the case in this series though. This installment is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish and it was hard to put down. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of the paranormal genre. I would, of course, recommend starting with the first one, but if you don’t want to do that, this one is a great one. It won’t leave you disappointed. It’s full of emotion and suspense. 🙂 I can’t wait for the next book and you won’t be able to wait either once you read the last page of this one. 🙂

Shadow Man (Lash #2)

From Goodreads: A renegade vampire begins amassing a flock of true believers, threatening America’s vampire hierarchy. Weresnake Lash partners with old enemy Danial and new allies Burl and Spiderboy to track down and annihilate them. Betrayed and left for dead, Lash reemerges the victor, edging ever upward in the Assassin’s Ranking, and catching the eye of the sultry nightclub singer Cassandra Nile. Drawn into drugs by Cassie, Lash begins to doubt himself, yearning to leave his life of violence, even as enemies close in from every side. When catastrophe strikes again, and Hill House is destroyed, Lash flees north to Devlin, again pledging service to a Vampire Ruler in return for both safety and revenge. Horrifically injured saving Devlin’s life, Lash is granted a potion to tremendously slow his aging, along with an evil request. Healed yet disheartened, Lash returns to his old friend Jasmine, who urges him to take Devlin’s offer.

Since the first book, I’ve found this series fascinating. I’ve never read anything with a weresnake before. I’ve also never read something with such a diverse amount of creatures in it. I loved the concept of Spiderboy’s character. I think this world is very creative and I love reading about it. I had the same trouble with this book that I did with this author’s other sequel. I wish I’d read the first book and this one back-to-back, because events from previous books aren’t explained. Characters from the previous book are mentioned and it took me a while to remember them. Other than that though, I really liked this book. It is very gritty though. There is a lot of sex and foul-language. If you’re someone who is easily offended, then I definitely wouldn’t suggest this book to you. If you are a fan of the paranormal and you’re looking for something that’s different from the usual, give this series a try. I wouldn’t suggest you start with this one though. You’ll still be able to understand the story, there will just be some confusing parts for you. Lash is a character you aren’t likely to soon forget. He’s a unique blend of characteristics that makes you love and hate him all at the same time. I love when a character can get into your head like that. I can’t wait to read more from this author… and I certainly hope there is more to come in this series. 🙂

From Goodreads: Shocked at Danial’s betrayal, Sarelle returns to her old home to consider her options. Yet even as Sar plans a reconciliation with Danial, Terian arrives, confessing his desire. When Theo witnesses Terian and Sar kiss, he angrily confronts Sar, leading to startling consequences. Will Sar’s heart choose Danial, Terian,…or Theo?

There were a lot of things I enjoyed about the book and also a few things I didn’t. Let’s talk about what I didn’t like first and get that out of the way. I didn’t like that there really wasn’t any refresher at all. I read a lot and there were a lot of books that I picked up between this one and the last one. I found myself getting confused a few times. I had to sort of fill in the blanks as best I could and hope that I remembered something close to what happened. I don’t like books that have too much explanation of what happened in previous books, but a little is necessary. I also had some issues with the fighting between Danial and Sarelle. I’m not going to give too much away, I don’t like having spoilers in my reviews, but I did think that a lot of it seemed too immature. I wanted more out of both of them. Now, that being said, I enjoyed this book. I finished it in one sitting. Things just kept happening that made me want to keep reading. That’s definitely something that an author should strive for. Don’t give the reader an opportunity to want to put the book down! 🙂 I was surprised with a few of the changes that occurred in the story and I’m still not sure how I’m hoping everything will turn out. But I hope I get to read more because I’m really enjoying a couple of these characters and I want to know more. I thought this title was very fitting, especially considering the previous book. If you enjoyed the last one, then you should definitely pick this up. If you haven’t read the first one in this series, then you NEED to. You can’t start this one without being very confused.

From Goodreads: When young widow Sarelle McGarran finds the vampire Danial Racklan unconscious and hurt in her woods, intuitive concern quickly becomes passionate love. Together Danial and Sar work to overcome their own past heartbreaks, their vastly different lifestyles, and Danial’s relentless enemies. Yet Danial needs more; an Oath of forever. But can Sar give Danial his greatest desire?

I will admit I was a little reluctant to read this… only because it was a vampire novel. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m absolutely burned out on them. I have a few series I will continue to read just because I’ve made it so far in them (and I’m definitely a completionist when it comes to books) but I’m reluctant to start anything new. This novel proved to me that there are still vampire stories out there that I will enjoy reading. Danial is in no way a perfect hero, but I think that’s what attracted me to him so much. There’s more to him than just a brooding undead. He’s a much richer character and I enjoyed reading about him. He’s also very attractive, but that’s always a good thing in these types of novels. Sar was also a great character. She had a lot to deal with on her own, but she knew how to do it and was a very independent woman. I felt like the hero and heroine really worked together. Neither one expected the other to give up their entire lives, maybe change a few things, but never give up who they truely are, and I think that’s really important in novels like this. I really enjoyed this novel. It was very refreshing to actually enjoy reading about vampires for once! I would definitely recommend this to paranormal romance fans, you won’t be disappointed!

From Goodreads: Scarred from a childhood spent in perpetual indigence after being forced from their home in the Everglades, weresnake Trystan Valeras and his family make their way to the Case Hotel. When his wealthy gangster father arrives the summer he turns sixteen, Trystan’s dream of a better life, along with the lovely aristocrat Mara, is suddenly within his grasp. Instead of paradise, a series of devastating events unfold, leading Trystan to become the instrument of his dying father’s revenge. His violent reprisal instigates a backlash of murder and death, forcing Trystan to flee with the remains of his family to the sultry city of New Orleans where he sells himself into the service of the Vampire Lord Abraham. Becoming the assassin Lash to hide his identity, Trystan finds a measure of peace, even as his skill with killing heightens, bringing to him not only new allies, but also new adversaries.

OH MY GOODNESS. This was such an intense book. I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel where I felt this conflicted about the main character. Trystan managed to be someone I felt sympathy for and someone I hated all at the same time. But I think that made me like him even more as a character. The depth of the emotions he had and the experiences he went through were some of the most tragic I’ve ever read about. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and I thought that the idea of weresnakes was an incredibly unique and interesting idea. This novel was a breath of  fresh air for this genre. It wasn’t one where the abilities of the characters were something that was found to be super attractive, in fact Trystan’s abilities were repulsive to most women when they first found out. I also loved that we got to see his journey from when he was younger. I thought this book was very, very well written and this novel says it’s #1 in a series, I hope that’s true! I want another one! 🙂 I would definitely recommend this to paranormal fans who aren’t afraid of their novels having some grit to them.

Return to Me

by: Tara Fox Hall

Published: November 3rd 2011 by Melange Books

From Goodreads: Determined to find the source of the nightly creaking she alone can hear, Sam Reading discovers Harrison Benning, a ghost who becomes corporeal for one night of the year; the summer solstice. Their warm friendship soon becomes powerful love that lasts through decades, tragedies, and even beyond death.

This is another short story by Tara Fox Hall and I gotta say, I think I liked this one even more than Surrender to Me. I’m a sucker for those love stories where it seems absolutely impossible for two people to be together. This was really cute and I felt so unbelievably sorry for Harrison. This was a very short story, but definitely worth the read if you’re looking for something quick and entertaining. I felt like these few pages packed a lot more into them than I would’ve expected, but after reading Surrender to Me it isn’t that surprising! I would definitely recommend this short story though to anyone who loves a good paranormal romance.

Surrender to Me

by: Tara Fox Hall

This is a short story and normally I don’t read short stories unless it’s for a class because I prefer novels where I can get more fully absorbed in the story, but I didn’t feel like I was missing that with this story. The characters were beautifully written and drew me into their world. The story did move very, very quickly and it felt shorter than it’s 28 pages, but it was a great escape from reality for a short period of time. Devlin is a wonderfully written hero. He’s a vampire, but he’s not the type that is seen so much in stories these days. His personality is so different, but still very attractive. Anna is so completely trusting and loving that’s it’s hard not to like her. She’s completely someone that I would adore if she were in real life, just like I adored her character. This story was gripping, even if it was very short. I can’t wait to see what this author can do with a full novel!
