It’s time for me to get a fresh start.

I’ve been in a reading slump for far too long.

For the two people who read my blog I’m sure you’ve noticed that I haven’t been posting and I apologize for that. I keep thinking that I’ll revamp the entire website and make it more exciting and new and those changes never happen. As much as I love the flood of books running this review site brings me, and as much as I love the new authors it has introduced me to, I’m burned out on not reading all of the books I’ve been meaning to.

So I’ve decided to make the reviews I do entirely different. I have a TBR pile that’s just way too long. Right now on Goodreads the list is in the 900s I’m pretty sure. I’ll provide the list for you here:

I need to get through these and I know that doing so will get me over the reading slump and back into what I really enjoy doing. I want to do the series of crushing my TBR pile in video form, but right now I simply don’t have the tools for that. I will be posting reviews of each book I finish from my TBR pile on here in my series, Juliette crushes her TBR pile!

I also just purchased a Kindle. As a long time Nook owner, this was a big adjustment for me. And I hate to admit it, but I absolutely LOVE it. It’s so much fun and I’ve actually sideloaded the Nook app onto it, so I have all of my books in one place. It’s wonderful. It also makes it so much easier to download all of the free books that are out there. Bookbub is tons of fun and I follow a few blogs that alert me to free books in my favorite genres. So of course along with my giant TBR pile, I now have a growing collection of Kindle books that I’m sure I’d never get to unless I buckle down and make myself. That brings me to series number 2, which will probably never be in video form, Juliette reads all of the free Kindle books!

I hope all of you stay with me through this change. I think these new series of reviews will tons of fun and I know I’m going to have a blast writing/making them for all of you!

Here’s to new adventures!

NaNoWriMo

I apologize for the lack of posts, NaNoWriMo is currently eating my brain. I shall return in December with more posts than ever (probably). I just have no more brain power for reviews at the moment, but I promise I shall return!

The Cancer Code

From Goodreads: THE CANCER CODE is a thriller about an altruistic New York biochemist called Jim MacWaide, who discovers a cure for cancer, independent of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company – his employers, Gluck Schmidt Little.

Coming from a renowned Napa wine-making family, Jim has spent three years obsessively experimenting on the properties of Resveratrol, an extract of the red grape. After achieving miraculous results in regenerating human tissue cells, he shares 90% of his discovery with the firm, but quickly gets cold feet. Realizing too late, he’s certain that once the ruthless pharma giant gets hold of the ‘Holy Grail’ of cures, only the rich will be saved from cancer – by a drug that costs ten dollars to produce.

When Jim refuses to reveal the last, vital code, his bosses hire an ex-Guantanamo interrogator to torture the goods out of him. Saved by a last minute tip-off, Jim hits the road, pursued by the relentless bounty-hunter in a race to find a non-profit organization for his miracle cure.

If ignominiously wrenched from his comfort zone, this terrifying journey liberates Jim’s ‘inner man’ and hitherto unknown strengths to outwit his nemesis for the common good.

This book was super interesting. I thought it was incredibly fascinating and I wanted to keep reading and neglect any work I had to do. This book was very well written and everything that explains the cure for cancer isn’t written in a way that’s hard to understand. In fact, it sounds perfectly realistic. I loved this book from the start and it drew me in instantly. I loved all the different plot lines and the way the book jumped around to let you catch up on all of them. I think that anyone who is looking for something fast paced and interesting, this is the book for you. I t is on the serious side, so if you’re looking for something lighthearted and fun, then this won’t be the place. But I love any book that has to do with medicine in fiction. It’s so fascinating and fun to imagine a world where stuff like this existed. I thought this book was very well thought out and very well paced out. Like I said, if you’re looking for something new and exciting and interesting to read, give this a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. 🙂
